Today at a writers workshop hosted at the Mustard Seed House someone made the comment that everyone have a book inside them – to what I thought “…and many should keep it there”.

There is a saying about teachers that applies well to most non-fiction popular religious writers:  those who can’t be, write about being.

“Write as if you were dying. At the same time, assume you are writing for an audience consisting solely of terminal patients. That is afterall, the case. What would you begin writing, is you knew you would die soon?”

YES! Magazine  :: Latin America Rising
Democracy: Latin America Leaps Ahead

Last year I wrote a short article titled Good News From The South, with the purpose of provoking progressive Christians to look at Latin America as an example of participatory democracy, justice and equality. The article was published last November by Prism Magazine.

On it I make the suggestion that in order to find our north, we as Christians need to be open minded and look at the progressive democratic changes happening in the South – Venezuela, Brasil, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and since the publication, also in Ecuador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. While things still developing and corruption still part of our Latin American political, social and religious culture, I embrace the emerging sense of hope and resurrection.

The most recent issue of Yes Magazine is dedicated to the rising of participatory Democracy in Latin America. The issue is full of fantastic articles and interviews full of possibilities for the new world that is already here.
